Forbes Next 1000 List-Maker, Ali Kaminetsky, of Modern Picnic, disrupted the cooler industry with their first-to-market, viral insulated lunch boxes catered toward the modern female consumer. Since then, Modern Picnic has expanded into a line of innovative, high-quality food storage solutions that embody the brand’s values of functionality, sustainability, and style. The brand has been celebrated in the media over 450 times—featured in Forbes, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Oprah, The Today Show, and seen most recently on Shark Tank. You can now shop Modern Picnic at Saks, Bloomingdale’s, The Container Store, Nordstrom, and more.
When Ali’s not reinventing lunchboxes, she’s hosting backyard dinners and bringing thoughtful, relaxed charm to every gathering. Her entertaining style is all about connection, curated details, and making people feel truly at home.

Q: When planning a gathering in your home, where do you start?

I recently hosted a dinner for my bachelorette at my childhood home in Connecticut, so for me, I started with the occasion that set the tone for everything else. From there, I focused on the theme and tablescape, which was definitely the most fun part to bring to life. Once the aesthetic came together, we worked with an incredible chef to design the perfect outdoor summer menu that complemented the vibe of the evening.

Q: How do you break the ice and set the tone?

My go-to ways to break the ice always start with setting the right mood, an amazing playlist, a great selection of drinks, and of course, delicious food and good company. Once people have a drink in hand and music is playing, everything else just flows naturally.

Q: If you had a limited budget to put together a small dinner party, what would you focus on for the tablescape?

I would focus on creating warmth and ambiance. Candles make such a difference they instantly make everything feel special. You can also find great linen napkins that look high-end without the price tag, and always mix in a few fresh flowers or greenery to bring it all to life.

Q: If someone is feeling overwhelmed by hosting their friends in their home, what tips would you give them?

I’d tell them not to overthink it. Hosting is supposed to be fun! Keep things simple - a few candles, a good playlist, and easy, delicious food that you actually enjoy making. If you’re relaxed and having fun, everyone else will be too.

Q: What's your go-to soundtrack for dinner party at home? We'd love your fave playlist!

Classic oldies forever - Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Carole King… they never miss

Q: What is the most memorable party or gathering you've attended or hosted? Why?

The most memorable gathering I’ve hosted recently was a backyard dinner at my childhood home in Connecticut for my bachelorette. It was the best night - beautiful weather, a delicious summer menu, amazing playlist, and all my closest friends. It felt so special, personal and celebratory.

Q: What are your favorite products or brands to use when hosting?

Modern Picnic Food Containers for leftovers.
