Create Your Own Crystal Ball

DIY Halloween Decor

Look into the future of your party

Want to know what your guests will think of your halloween party before they even arrive? DIY crystal balls are cheaper than the real thing, match the halloween spirit, and give you a glimpse into the future of your get-together.

Below are 4 different styles—2 of which require one supply only. So peer into what’s ahead and seek which fortune suits you best. Each of these can be paired with a gothic candle holder, decanter, or serving bowl as a base. You’ll love the crystal appearance of each of them, so much so that it may be hard to pick only one. What will your future hold…

Iridescent

(1) Supply: 4 inch round, iridescent glass Christmas ornament.

  1. Take off the hanging apparatus of an iridescent ornament. That’s all there is to it.

Frosted

(1) Supply: 4 inch round, frosted glass Christmas ornament.

  1. Take off the hanging apparatus of a frosted ornament. Way too easy.

Sea Glass

Supplies:

  • 4 inch round, iridescent glass Christmas ornament
  • Floral foam
  • Sturdy straw
  • Sea glass ice or frosted glass spray paint
  1. Insert the straw into the floral foam.
  2. Slide the ball onto it.
  3. Spray the entire ball lightly and evenly. This gives the ball a slightly frosted look but keeps the iridescent underglow.

Faux Mercury Glass

Supplies:

  • 4 inch round, iridescent glass Christmas ornament,
  • Floral foam
  • Sturdy straw
  • White vinegar
  • Water
  • Spray bottle
  • Looking glass spray paint
  • Paper towels
  1. Insert the straw into the floral foam.
  2. Slide the ball onto it.
  3. Mix 2 parts vinegar to 1 part water in a spray bottle.
  4. Lightly mist the entire ball with the mixture.
  5. While still wet, shake the looking glass spray can before spraying the entire ball with even coats.
  6. Mist with the vinegar mixture again.
  7. Blot the ball with a paper towel to set the vinegar droplets as needed.
  8. Continue alternating until you reach your desired mystic result.
  9. Allow to dry and carefully transfer the ball to a base (the paint on this one can flake off easily).

Although these homemade crystal balls can’t actually tell the future, displaying them at your halloween party are sure to leave guests highly impressed with your abilities. So in a sense, you can see the future through your crystal ball.
