Heather Balliet is the creative force behind Amorology Weddings, a renowned design and planning house known for crafting immersive, story-driven celebrations. With more than 20 years of experience in the event industry, Heather has built a reputation for thoughtful design, emotional storytelling, and an eye for details that make guests feel genuinely cared for. Her work has been featured in publications like People, Brides, and Martha Stewart, and she’s widely recognized as an innovative leader in the wedding world.

At home, Heather brings that same intentional mindset to hosting. Gatherings start with a clear sense of occasion, evolve into layered concepts, and come to life through interactive details, meaningful rituals, and moments of surprise. For her, the most memorable events are rooted in connection, not complexity. Whether she’s planning a dinner party or a milestone celebration, Heather believes the heart of hosting is creating space for people to feel comfortable, inspired, and celebrated.

Q: When planning a gathering in your home, where do you start?

A: We always start with the occasion and develop a concept from there.

Q: How do you like to break the ice or entertain guests?

A: We love creating interactive details in our tabletop and decor to stimulate conversation as well as games. For example, we hid secret missions under our guests’ plates during Thanksgiving for a little twist on normal tabletop talk!

Q: If you had a limited budget for a small dinner party, what would you focus on?

A: When working with a limited budget, we prioritize a beautiful tabletop with fun dishes and floral moments.

Q: What makes a great gathering truly memorable?

A: To us, it’s always about the company you keep and the details that make your guests feel cared for.

Q: What advice would you give to someone feeling overwhelmed by hosting?

A: Start with what you feel comfortable with and enjoy and outsource what you don’t. If cooking isn’t your strength, set a thoughtful table and bring in the food from a favorite local restaurant. Don’t feel pressured to take on things that aren’t in your wheelhouse but rather share with your friends what makes you happy.

Q: What’s your signature recipe or drink when hosting?

A: We love serving Italian blood orange soda in fancy coupes. Not only is it delicious but the color is beautiful. The kids especially enjoy this!

Q: What’s your go-to dinner party soundtrack?

A: We love music of all genres. We often play a lot of acoustic folk or guitar music. Being that we’re a musical family, you can typically find our family playing instruments or singing during our gatherings as well.

Q: What’s your favorite party trick?

A: Plan for four extra guests in case plans change and unexpected guests are able to come last minute so you aren’t left scrambling. Better to be over prepared than under prepared!

Q: What’s the most memorable gathering you’ve hosted or attended?

A: My most recent birthday party that my husband surprised me with and was put together by our dear friends in the wedding industry. They each contributed in their own thoughtful way with their talents, and it was the most beautiful gift to me to get to enjoy the evening with them surrounded by what they created.

Q: Favorite products or brands for hosting?

A: We love working with some of our favorite rental companies for linens like BBJ or Theoni.
