Pine Cone Christmas Trees

Bringing nature to your table
Pines cones: not just for squirrels anymore. Although you may find yourself in a bit of a tiff if you find yourself taking them from a greedy little rodent. PSA: we do NOT advise stealing from squirrels for this craft. There are plenty of pine cones to go around…
That said, we love pine cones. They add a warm, nature-esque element. Whether scattered into garland, filling up a jar or accompanying wintry florals on your tablescape, they just fit. For today’s trick, we will make Christmas trees out of pine cones to add a chic, decorative element to your table.
Two different tree ideas are given here so you’ll see various size options. Choose your mini or biggie. ;)
Mini Trees
Supplies Needed:
- Pine cones
- Wine corks
- Serrated knife
- Glue gun + hot glue
- Optional:
- Glitter paint
- Beads
- Sequins to use as ornaments
- Spray paint of desired color (red, green, white, etc.)
Steps
- Use a serrated knife to cut a cork in half widthwise to use as two stumps.
- Attach cork to bottom of pine cone with hot glue.
- Once dry, get to decorating! Or ornamenting, should we say? Use your sequins or beads as ornaments, spray paint the pine cone, or leave it simple and natural.
Pro tip: If setting up your Winter Wonderland tablescape or mantel, flock the pine cone completely white. Add light blue sequins and beads. Did Anna and Elsa just show up for the party?
Biggie Tree
Supplies Needed:
- Foam cone in size of choice (12”, 18”, 24”, 36”)
- Pine cones
- Glue gun + hot glue
- Optional: same as above decorative elements
Steps
- Stick hot glue to the bottom of pine cones. Secure cones onto the base of foam cone, so top of pine cone points out from the foam.
- Complete a layer and begin working your way up toward the point of the tree.
- End with a pine cone glued right on top.
- Decorate or paint as needed for the look of your home.
Feel free to add your own twist to match your holiday vibe. If you’re decorating a Winter Wonderland, then all white or frosted tip pine cones may be calling your name. If aiming for the traditional red and green holiday, then think of brushing red and green glitter glue on the tips as an ornamental look.
No matter how you celebrate the holidays, pine cones bring a scent of nature and the look of a fabulously decorated home.
