How to Set Up a Martini Bar

A better (and easier) way to serve cocktails

Classic or dirty: They choose.

We’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again: you do not need to play bartender all night long.

There’s something about a martini that feels endlessly stylish—without being complicated. While we’re big fans of spritz bars in the warmer months and cozy drink stations for chillier nights, a martini bar is the ultimate move year-round. It's simple, customizable, and keeps guests engaged (without you mixing drinks all evening).

Martinis feel upscale, but they’re incredibly straightforward—usually requiring just two or three ingredients. Whether you're hosting a dinner party, client mixer, or celebratory team event, here's how to give your guests a hands-on martini moment they’ll remember.

The Essentials: Martini Bar Materials

The quality of your garnishes makes a big difference, which is why we always recommend clean, bar-ready options from trusted brands like Filthy (linked for ease!).

Pro Tip: Take the work out of shopping with a complete Martini Kit from Filthy—it includes everything from brine to picks.

The Tools: Barware

  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Cocktail shaker (shaken) or mixing glass (stirred)
  • Martini glasses or champagne coupes

No need to stress about traditional glassware—mixing and matching adds charm. We’re loving the coupes from Saludi Glassware right now.

Encourage guests to fill their glass with ice while mixing to keep things nice and chilled.

The Signage: Martini Recipes for Guests

Set your guests up for success by printing or framing a quick reference card at the bar. Martini recipes are easy, but a little guidance makes it foolproof (and avoids awkward ratios).

Classic Martini

  • 2.5 oz gin
  • 0.5 oz dry vermouth
  • Garnish: olive or lemon twist

Dirty Martini

  • 2.5 oz gin or vodka
  • 0.5 oz dry vermouth
  • 0.5 oz olive brine
  • Garnish: olive

Gibson Martini

  • 2.5 oz gin or vodka
  • 0.5 oz dry vermouth
  • Garnish: cocktail onion

Tips for Martini Bar Success:

Pre-prep garnishes: Skewer olives, twist lemon peels, and set out cocktail onions beforehand.

Chill glassware: Instruct guests to fill glasses with ice while making their drinks.

Use champagne coupes if martini glasses aren't available.

Pre-batch a few pitchers of each type for ease, using recipes like Alison Roman’s crowd-size martinis.

Include NA options in martini glasses for non-drinkers—elevated and inclusive.

Who knew you could make martinis so simply? Sophisticated isn’t so difficult after all—especially when you let Partytrick do the heavy lifting.
